There may be a constant plethora of new artists available for us to stream and listen to, but New York born-and-bred musician Greer Baxter is not one to miss.
Following the release of her 2019 EP “Bleed”, Greer Baxter has returned with ‘Sleeping on the Couch’- a lovely little tune about fighting, and making up, with the person that you love.
Greer’s songwriting reflects artists like Regina Spektor and Alanis Morisette: artists who are well known for their clever lyrical poetry about the ups and downs of relationships.
The song was produced solely by Greer, and her musical talents shine through; the song fuses an alternative pop sound, not dissimilar to big names such as Lauv and Halsey.

Greer has been writing music, singing and playing piano from a very young age, creating songs about relationships and heartbreak before she had even experienced it herself. It takes a natural talent for songwriting to be able to portray such emotion.
“I wrote this song about suddenly being at odds with the person you love and trying to make sense of it. We’ve all had a night sleeping on the couch and we wake up in the morning thinking: why would we let a fight keep us apart for the night? It’s about wanting to resolve it before falling asleep and wondering if the other person feels the same.”

With this talent came great inspiration, leading Greer to study poetry in college and graduate from the University of Chicago last year.
The singer has even met Michelle Obama at the White House during National Poetry Month.
“My music therefore tries to connect poetry and melody and that is always my guiding force as I write my songs”, the singer said. “I believe words and music can transport you in ways nothing else can. That inspires me and hopefully will inspire others.”
Greer has also been commissioned to write songs for a number of artists including Hamilton’s Mandy Gonzalez, an American Idol finalist, and a UK pop singer.
