Barrow in Furness has spawned five piece The Silver Bars, who pride themselves on not being ‘just another indie band‘.
Even though their music is inspired by some of the biggest names on the indie scene, such as The Strokes and Radiohead, The Silver Bars don’t follow the ordinary path.
‘With our music, we never set out to fit into a genre or category, Indie just prevailed from very early on with influences from the early 2000’s being the main focus.’
It’s clear to the ear that each member is a pioneer in their own lanes and shows their true individuality in their impressive track record.
The band are no strangers to the unique, one of their tracks Man in the Sky, features the last words of Felix Baumgartner before he famously jumped from the edge of our atmosphere down to earth in an impressive skydive. They went as far as getting approval from Felix and his team to use it in the track and loving it.
So you can expect big things from their newest single, Big Part, which is due to be released on 18th June.
It’s a welcome breath of fresh air that delivers a fast, charged anthem about the impact of modern overindulgence.
After having an exclusive listen, it’s fast-paced- with pumping verses strikes with raw and raucous vocals. The verse gives way to the writhing chorus with Stroke-esque guitar riffs and bass line. There’s even an unexpected 90s synth arpeggio in the 3rd verse, just for fun.
“The point is the band never spawned from the idea of fame and money, purely about the music and community we’d created within our little group. And that the music we’ve made is a product of that idea that we’ve always kept close to our chest. The music itself is what we pride ourselves on; not one song we’ve recorded and released is ‘just another love song’. Each of them are written about different things hidden in plain sight, often interesting anecdotes tightly woven together, with the lyricism being particularly clever and captivating. Every song is easy listening but also absolutely worth listening to at the same time, as every one has its own story to unravel.“
Big Part questions societal norms regarding what is and what is not seen as acceptable; there’s a realist twist with the realisation no one can run from the culture that defines them.
There’s nothing like a bit of realism to really make you think!
