It’s not very often that I would listen to classical music. I kind of made the sweeping generalisation that classical music peaked in the era of Beethoven and then was only something played as the background music to a dramatic TV scene.
But Six Nights’ album, 21, has opened my eyes to the wonderful serenading power of classical music as well as the beauty of one simple, timely instrument – the piano.
And what an album it is. With 13 sublime tracks, each of which explore different textures, tones and emotions, Six Nights has an undeniable talent for music.
His compositions take inspiration from not only the traditional classical artists, who were the founding father’s for this musical genre, but also from modern influences like R&B, hip-hop and film scores. It is this diversity that makes all 13 tracks intricate and moving.
Like for many of us, the COVID 19 pandemic lockdown has been a blessing in disguise, as it allowed the time for Six Nights’ to delve into his talent as a pianist. After struggling with depression, he hooked up with a producer to professionally record his compositions (which he had previously recorded just on his iPhone- we’ve all got to start somewhere!)
Six Nights isn’t a formal suit and bow-tie wearing pianist, and his thoughtful and highly emotive album is hopefully a demonstration to other young people and music fans that classical music is for everyone and is ultimately, pretty cool.
For all you readers wanting to start listening now, you’ll have to wait until the 28th May when the album is officially released. Good Night Baby was released 9th April and is a teaser to the rest of the album.
About Six Nights

With a British father and a French-Moroccan mother, Six Nights often faced racially-motivated bullying at school and felt he didn’t fit in amongst the other pupils. After his parents split up when he was 8 years old, he found solace in the piano to let out his frustration at the world, and let his creativity thrive.
He performed his first composition in the school hall at aged 12, and was encouraged by his parents to continue to practice the piano. He would often run home from school at lunchtime to practice; this dedication is clear in his album.
As his friends all dreamed of becoming hiphop megastars, Six Nights spread his musical wings into the classical genre and he is now soaring. At 21, he has honed his pianist skills to create truly remarkable piano compositions.
21, is a really beautiful album, and for those who feel out of their comfort zone, give it a listen; maybe your mind will be opened to the musical power of the black and white keys.
