Aurelia Dey Releases Powerful Anthem ‘Huntress’

2020 was an eventful year for all, but for new and upcoming artist Aurelia Day, she used her time wisely.

Releasing her new single ‘Huntress’ on 23rd April, Aurelia Day combines dance and afrobeat genres to proudly show off her black womanist identity and her Ghanaian-Swede heritage.

‘Huntress’ embodies female empowerment and breaking stereotypes; it’s about being brave and ambitious, highlighting the efforts of the liberal feminism movement in challenging our engrained gender norms.

She’s an artist looking to entertain and enlighten by constantly finding new ways of expression through dance, music, acting and dialog.

This is not the first release in Aurelia’s already successful career; ‘Sweet Love’ has clocked up over 300,000 listens on Spotify.

Sweet Love was released in 2018.

But ‘Huntress’ is accompanied by a newly produced concert experience as well as her all new webseries, all under the concept of “Sunday Service”.

Aurelia Day describes ‘Huntress’ as a way of acknowledging a new level of liberal feminism whilst cultivating a profound connection to diversity. With lyrics mentioning strong female characters like Katniss Everdeen or Xena Warrior Princess, Aurelia articulates her quintessential and unshakeable female power.

It’s a track that says “I’m in charge”, to empower, to take control of your own life, to claim space, and inspire others. But it’s also really catchy and entertaining; Aurelia’s use of funny sensual references show off that confident female attitude.

Aurelia Day uses a mix of Afro Punk with a sense of royalty, yet her work continues to represent her as down to Earth, with a hint of fierceness and empowerment.

With her musical influences ranging from the likes of Aaliya, All Saints and En Vogue, her artistic comparisons have been noted as Nina Simone and Spice. She has worked closely with both Partillo and Lance-a-lot productions, while she’s performed with Syster Sol and Cleo.

And its no wonder. In a music industry becoming more and more diversified and empowering for women, her artistic endeavours shine through.

Through her connections to mental health, anti-racism and a female warrior archetype, she has successfully intertwined influential change amongst listeners through a dancehall-afrobeat twist.

‘Huntress’ is out 23rd April.
