The established Baluji Music Foundation is announcing the start of its new research project ‘Blind to the Facts 2022’, which will focus on identifying why employment rates of blind and partially sighted people in music are particularly low and how the barriers can be addressed to create change.
The Baluji Music Foundation is a registered charity in England and Wales which was founded by blind Indian multi-instrumentalist and composer Baluji Shrivastav OBE in 2008 designed to advance access to musical and artistic experiences for blind and partially sighted people. The Baluji Music Foundation was also designed to help develop blind and partially sighted people skills and confidence, promote their achievements, and increase their representation in the music industry. The creation of the The Inner Vision Orchestra is historical as it is the only professional orchestra of blind and partially sighted people in the UK.
Leading the research project ‘Blind to the Facts 2022’, Dr Claire Castle of Bravo Victor will be collecting research from across London. Dr Claire Castle of Bravo Victor has a background in music psychology exploring the musical lives of individuals with visual impairment. Claire has held the position of Senior Scientist since September 2019, leading on multiple projects which seek to better understand the lives and needs of individuals with visual impairment.
